What's your story? aims and outcomes.
What's your story? aims to:
- Support teachers in encouraging students to develop skills in and a love of storytelling
- Utilise the experience, skills and enthusiasm for writing of published Australian authors to show students that writing can be fun and rewarding
- Improve the writing skills of primary school students
- Balance the teaching of the technical skills associated with writing by giving students a reason to write and an audience to write for
- Counter the emphasis on sport by recognising and rewarding literary talent.
Outcomes to include:
- Improvement of literacy levels in schools - an issue which is a political and community priority.
- Support for the work of schools in an area in which many teachers are not confident and/or skilled.
- Development and mentoring of the creative talents of the next generation of Australian writers.
- Promotion of Australian children’s literature and authors through their participation in this program.
