What's your story?
A new writing program and story writing competition for kids. Find out what it's all about.
What's your Story?
What's your story? is a new writing program open to Grades 5 & 6 students. In 2008 it is being trialled in primary schools in Victoria and New South Wales. In the future we hope it will become a national writing program for senior primary school students in all states and territories.
In March and April 2008 some lucky students were treated to a creative writing workshop led by experienced authors James Roy, Deb Abela, Sue Whiting, Jeni Mawter or Jane Carroll. These authors gave the participants some great writing tips on creating the best ever stories. You can see some winning tips from these and other authors by clicking here.
Now it's time to get writing!
Write a 500 word story on the topic of your choice and enter it in the competition. Judges will choose 12 finalists who will receive written feedback on their story from a published children’s author. Finalists will then have the chance to rewrite and improve their story before the final judging. There will be one winner from Grade 5 and one winner from Grade 6. The stories of the winners and all the finalists will be published on this website.
And of course you could win some great prizes!
All 12 finalists will win a great selection of books from our sponsors, and the two overall winners will receive their choice of either an iPod Nano OR a digital camera!
Enter online on or before 16th June. For all other dates see the Upcoming Events box on the right-hand side of this page.
Before you start writing read the terms and conditions so you know what you have to do!
Good luck everyone!
Helen
